It has been said that chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia (CFS/FM) are like the old Indian story of the blind men and the elephant. As the men felt various parts of the elephant, they described it as a snake, a brush, a tree, or a wall, depending on which part they had touched. Each thought of the elephant in terms of his own experience, mistaking part of the elephant for all of it. Likewise, everybody working with chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia has a piece of the puzzle, but much work remains to be done before a complete picture emerges.
Hope and Help for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia is designed to educate patients suffering from CFS/FM about their illnesses and to teach them coping skills that will improve their quality of life. And while the good news is that people who suffer from CFS/FM aren't dying, they bad news is that it's going to take a lot of time and effort to get better since there is no one specific treatment that works for everyone.
Some of the issues covered are:
- Understanding the symptoms and how diagnoses are made
- Causes of CFS/FM and common psychological consequences, including anxiety and depression
- The role of stress and how to manage it
- The connection between the mind and the body in coping with CFS/FM
- The potential of medications, nutrition, and lifestyle changes
- The role of complementary medications and dietary supplements in pain management
- The value and limitations of alternative or complementary therapies such as acupuncture, massage, homeopathy, and aromatherapy
- Legal issues about how to deal with medical and legal problems that may arise if insurance benefits have been stopped

Debilitating pain and tenderness in muscles, ligaments, and tendons are the typical symptoms of fibromyalgia, and this guide by a medical researcher of the disease dismisses traditional treatment—heat, exercise, and rest—in favor of antiviral medications that often provide immediate relief and eventual complete recovery. Offering new hope for advances in treatment, the discussion covers the difficulty of diagnosing fibromyalgia, the overlaps with chronic fatigue syndrome, the unrelatedness of arthritis, and the possibility that food allergies may trigger attacks. Patient success stories along the way encourage readers while data samples, references, and appendices provide clinical details.

When the human spirit is confined over time by negative emotions, thoughts, beliefs, or environments and is not allowed or encouraged to give itself full expression, the resulting anger and grief eventually show up in the body as pain. This material on calming and clearing chronic pain will describe some of the primary emotions and beliefs that hold the cage in place and how we can use EFT to, literally, free our souls. EFT can help with fibromyalgia when nothing else can. Sufferers experience constant pain, have sore and knotted muscles, find it difficult to sleep, have trouble concentrating and feel low energy throughout the day. A new edition of the bestselling book for fibromyalgia sufferers-with information on the latest medications and alternative and complementary therapies Fibromyalgia, with its constant severe muscle pain, relentless fatigue, disturbed sleep, and feelings of depression, is regularly misdiagnosed and misunderstood, yet it is the most common arthritis-related disease next to osteoarthritis. While some feel these symptoms are part of growing older, fibromyalgia is not a sign of aging.
In this newly revised edition of his popular handbook, Dr. Harris H. McIlwain offers hope to millions of sufferers. His proven seven-step treatment program includes the very latest in such medications as Cox-2 Inhibitors, the breakthrough drugs that reduce pain and inflammation without stomach upset, and guaifenesin, a common ingredient in cough and cold medications that may lessen the symptoms of fibromyalgia. The program also has specific exercises to reduce deep muscle pain, to increase strength and energy, and to alleviate stress and anxiety. McIlwain tells what alternative approaches are safe to supplement his own treatment program, and offers an expanded discussion of complementary therapies that may be of benefit, such as homeopathy, chiropractic, aromatherapy, nutritional therapy, and herbal therapy. With McIlwain's program, fibromyalgia sufferers can manage the symptoms of the disease, reverse its progression in most cases, and improve the quality of their lives.

Fibromyalgia, which affects more women than men, is characterized by widespread pain in muscles, ligaments and tendons, as well as fatigue and multiple tender points — places on the body where slight pressure causes pain. Although mainstream medicine has yet to devise a successful plan for treating fibromyalgia, yoga offers sensible strategies for managing, and sometimes overcoming, the pain. Written by a yoga teacher and suitable for both yoga novices and veterans, this book is grounded in simple movements, breathing techniques, and guided visualization and relaxation sessions. Readers learn to reduce stress and manage fibromyalgia through eight sequences: four for pain relief, one to diminish fatigue and improve sleep, and three for maintaining body awareness and general flexibility. The author's simple, supportive language and mixture of theory, practice, and the latest scientific data offer hope for one of the most challenging health conditions.

Fibromyalgia Syndrome or FMS, is a disorder that brings both a sense of exhaustion and pain. It affects the whole body robbing the person of their energy and bringing with it sensations of pain. Currently there is no known cure for FM. The word “”fibromyalgia” has a definition that refers to the fibrous tissues in the body and to pain. Some people may describe it as similar to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS, formerly known as ME) but with the addition of pain.
The soft tissues in body such as tendons, muscle, and ligaments are the places where the pain and discomfort is produced. Many FM sufferers describe having total body pain rather than a sense of isolated pain. They often feel like their muscles are extremely taut and they may experience twitches or spasms in their muscles.

Clinical studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of Devil's Claw in treating joint conditions like osteo-arthritis, fibrositis, rheumatism and small joint disease, (Lecompte & Costa, 1992). It has also been scientifically proven to assist in the treatment of lower backache (Chrubasik, 1996). In a study by Brady et al, (1981), serum cholestol and uric acid levels were shown to be reduced after treatment with Devil's Claw. Scientific studies have also indicated that it is effective in stimulating the lymphatic system to increase resistance against disease. Glucosamine is naturally manufactured in the body and scientists known that this simple substance is found in relatively high concentrations in the joints and connective tissues, where its function is to repair cartilage and maintain joint mobility. Boswellia has been used for thousands of years as a natural anti-inflammatory. Modern science has verified that boswellic acids contained within the herb can block the formation of leukotrienes, the immune cells responsible for inflammation, while also promoting the formation of free radicals. With regular use, blood supply to the joints is also maintained, keeping soft tissue nourished and viable. Use JointEase Plus as a natural alternative to prescription anti-inflammatory drugs; for relief from painful joint conditions, neck pain or lower back ache; to assist with any form of arthritis, fibrositis, myalgia or rheumatism; for relief from any degenerative musculoskeletal condition; to treat painful knees or 'small joint disease' (e.g. wrists, fingers, ankles and toes); to prevent and relieve the symptoms of gout.

I understand. For most of the world, it's a common little phrase. But for people who have fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue syndrome (or both), it's amazingly powerful, not to mention rare. Because you have an illness that's hard to prove, loved ones may secretly accuse you of hypochondria or laziness. You may be told it's all in your head. Phusicians can be even worse. If they believe that conditions exist at all - and some don't - their first impulse is to mask the symptoms with prescription drugs. Patients often end up on a medical merry-go-round, seeing doctor after doctor after doctor. They end up more confused and disoriented than ever, often concluding, Maybe I am crazy, after all.
